Department of Sociology Alumni Dinner
On Saturday, 4th May 2019 The Department of Sociology hosted its first Alumni Dinner. The Department of Sociology is striving for progress in various areas of academia and the ambition behind the dinner was that of reconnection with Department of Sociology alums, newly admitted students to get acquainted with both faculty and senior students and to reflect on time passed since the Department of Sociology’s inception in 2015. The event was a resounding success brought together because of the tireless efforts of the Department of Sociology’s faculty and student participants.
The venue for the event was chosen as the Maisonette Gulberg, Lahore. The venue provided a sophisticated ambiance and overall joyful atmosphere which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The event began at 5:30 pm .Ms. Tayyaba Sohail Assistant Professor was in charge of the ‘Meet and Greet’ session where guests were welcomed and began engaging in conversation about time passed and future aspirations. Ms. Tayyaba Sohail was accompanied by Mr. Inam-ul-Haq Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Erasmus fellow, whom also engaged in cheerful and friendly conversation with all the guests.
The event was compared meticulous by Ms. Najaf and Ms.Mariam M.Phil. Scholars at the Department of Sociology. Ms. Najaf was joined on stage by Ms. Zunaira, and Mr. Faizan Jamil both of whom are senior M.Phil. Scholars at the Department of Sociology. After the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat khuani, the participants of the event took the stage and entertained the crowd by engaging them in various skits, tableaus and hilarious question answer sessions. Participants who had graduated were honored by their juniors which was a heartfelt gesture of true respect. The event furthered with other displays of entertainment by the participants. Towards the closing of the event, titles were handed out to M.Phil. Participants and poetry was read out describing the positive qualities of each faculty member.
The Honorable DG UMT Mr. Abid Shirwani was the Chief Guest for the event. His presence surely motivated the Faculty and participants a like. Although the event was primarily concentrated on ‘Creating new memories’ for the participants, however it was also a time for great distinction and prestige. The amazing faculty of the Department of Sociology has received the result from the QEC with outstanding marks via student comments. This feat is an example of the work ethic that the faculty places in day in and day out to produce optimal results. A feat recognized by Mr. Abid Shirwani in his speech addressing the attendees and shared by the C.O.D Department of Sociology Assistant Professor Dr. Basharat Hussain.
The event came to a closing with individual articulation by the faculty members Ms. Tayyaba Sohail, Mr. Inam-ul-Haq and Ms. Shermeen Bano who gave their honest opinion about the progress all participants have made these past few years and way to progress in the future. After which a delectable assortment of dishes were prepared by the Maisonette hotel which all in attendance enjoyed thoroughly.
