Awareness Walk and Celebration: International Day of Persons with Disabilities at UMT

Description: The Department of Education, School of Social Sciences & Humanities (SSSH), University of Management and Technology (UMT), organized an “International Day of Persons with Disabilities – Awareness Walk & Celebration” on December 3. The event was held on campus with the purpose of promoting inclusion, respect, and dignity for persons with disabilities.
The walk began at 3:30 PM from the LRC (Library, CIE). Students, faculty, and administrative staff from both the Department of Education and various other departments participated enthusiastically. Walking together, participants showed solidarity with persons with disabilities and emphasized the need for a more accessible and welcoming campus environment for everyone.
Key objectives of the event included:
• Celebrating the diverse abilities and strengths of persons with disabilities;
• Promoting respect, inclusion, and dignity within the university community;
• Encouraging support and advocacy for a campus where physical, social, and academic barriers are minimized.
Throughout the walk, participants shared meaningful conversations on how everyday practices at UMT can become more disability-friendly. The activity not only raised awareness among students and staff but also reaffirmed the commitment of the Department of Education and SSSH-UMT to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all.
