INTRODUCTION

Sociology is a systematic study of human societies, and it attempts to understand the ways in which societies, institutions, organizations and groups interact with each other. Sociologists examine the themes and processes of societal change and the factors that influence our lives in the society. New technologies and cultural issues, exploding populations, and expanding belief systems are propelling human beings in directions never mapped out before. Now is an exciting time to be a sociologist.

The B.S. program in Sociology at the University of Management and Technology has been designed to provide a solid foundation in Sociology and to enable students to deal with the issues of the contemporary world. The B.S. in Sociology is versatile, and launches students into many wide-ranging career options in diverse fields. Graduates in Sociology have career opportunities in the government’s Social Welfare Department, non-government organizations, community development and mobilization programs, police and prison departments, teaching, research, and the corporate sector.

The B.S. in Sociology also prepares the students for further academic pursuits, particularly in Social Sciences. Following an all-round training in Sociology through this program, students can choose to specialize in a sub-field of their interest at a university in Pakistan or abroad.
