Dr. Syedah Sadia Kazmi is a defence & strategic studies analyst, researcher, and trainer specializing in the areas of Security and Strategic Studies including Nuclear Strategy, Non-proliferation, Arms Control and Disarmament, Maritime Security and Blue Economy, Asian and Pacific Security, China-Pakistan Strategic relations with special focus on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Intelligence and National Security, Counter-terrorism, Peace Building and Conflict Transformation, Energy Security, Defence Policy, Diplomacy, and Foreign Policy of Great Powers.

Dr. Kazmi is the Alumna of the most prestigious Naval workshop MARSEW-7 (26 Nov – 5 Dec, 2024) hosted by Pakistan Navy War College.

She joined the DPSIR, UMT in October 2022 where along with teaching and supervising graduate and postgraduate course and theses, she is currently performing duties as the Program Advisor, MS Security and Strategic Studies; Lead, National Outreach Program (NOP); Departmental Focal Person for school-wide Harassment Committee, and Team member for Outcome Based Education (OBE). She has also been presenting papers, delivering book talks, hosting and organizing seminars and international guest lectures at the UMT.

Dr. Kazmi earned a PhD in Strategic Studies (SS) with 4CGPA from National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, Pakistan, and an MS in Political Science from University of Auckland (UoA), Auckland, New Zealand.  The PhD dissertation explores emerging strategic dynamics in Sino-Pakistan relations with CPEC as the case study.

She has served for 7 years as the Director Academics, Policy, and Program at an Islamabad based research think tank - Strategic Vision Institute (SVI), where she also worked as the Journal Editor; and Senior Research Associate. She remained actively involved in research projects, opinion analyses, report writing, preparing policy briefs, and editing Journal and event reports along with regularly conducting and organizing workshops, seminars, in-houses/webinars and conferences. The themes primarily revolved around Nuclear Strategy; Proliferation/Non-proliferation Issues; Security Studies; Cyber Security; Nuclear Terrorism; Foreign Policy; and Arms Control and Disarmament. Other administrative assignments included administering and managing Online Journal System (OJS), Institute’s website, Facebook Page, and YouTube Channel.

She has actively been contributing in policy advocacy through TV Interviews/Radio and is a dynamic voice on the role of media in the fifth generation warfare (5GW).   

She has also served as a Lecturer at the local universities including National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad; Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad; Fatima Jinnah women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi; Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI); and National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad where she taught courses on Strategy, Peace and Conflict, Diplomacy, and Democracy.

Dr. Sadia Kazmi is widely published in the HEC recognized Journals and has been writing regular opinion articles on issues of strategic importance for the local and international newspapers, blogs, and magazines.
