In the wake of increased demand for quality education, the need for competent educational managers has increased manifold. The mushrooming growth of private institutions is an apparent response to the meet this need.

However, quality and relevance of education is a function of the educational leadership, which is lacking in teacher education programs. These programs offered by the institutions of higher learning are not geared to meet the emergent needs.

Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management (MA ELM) is an innovative field based degree program that provides an opportunity to college heads, school heads, education officers and senior teachers to learn the latest in the field of educational leadership and management.

  Course Description
  The participants of the program will build a holistic and integrated view of the school as a learning organization, and will equip themselves with the latest concepts, tools and techniques in practice in the modern day world, as regards educational leadership and management. Since MA ELM is a field based program, the participants spend only 20% time at UMT on one Saturday and Sunday of every month. While they spend 80% time in their own context to carry out action research and field assignments. Successful graduates will be able to lead their academic teams innovatively and manage their school affairs efficiently and effectively.

Research (6 Credit-Hours)

PRF-610 Master’s Thesis
Each course has 8 sessions (12 contact hours with the teacher) plus fieldwork, amounting to a total of 36 academic hours or 3 credit-hours.

End of semester exam is held on completion of every semester.

Timing = 1000 to 1700 hrs (One Saturday and Sunday of every month during Fall/Spring semesters. Two Saturdays and Sundays of every month during the Summer session).

Admission Criteria

All applications are evaluated on the basis of merit as determined by the applicant's previous academic record, work experience and performance in the interview, according to the following weightage:

  • O-Levels/Matriculation Marks 15%
  • A-Levels/Intermediate marks 15%
  • Graduation marks 20%
  • Work experience 20%
  • Interview 30%

Additional 5 marks are awarded to all master’s degree holders.
