Conference on Islamic Civilization-Potentials & Challenges


This is to inform all concerned that due to devastating floods which have disrupted the civic life in Pakistan, the University of Management & Technology, Lahore, has been compelled to defer and reschedule the Conference on Islamic Civilization – Potentials and Challenges. Now, the conference would be held, Insha Allah, on March 28-29, 2011.  Those who have already submitted their research papers, their submissions would remain valid and they would be informed about approval of their papers in near future. Those who have not submitted their papers yet, and their abstracts were approved; they should submit their papers now.

Due to the above mentioned delay, the Conference Committee also announces to open its doors for fresh submissions. Thus those who are interested to participate in the Conference, can submit a 200-300 word abstract along with a brief CV and send the same on civconference@umt.edu.pk by October 30, 2010. Please include title of paper, full name (s), affiliation, current position and email address. Please note that languages of the conference are English and Arabic.

 


Major themes of the Conference are as follows:

  1. Origin, development and dynamics of Islamic civilization
  2. Distinguishing features of Islamic civilization and its impact on other major civilizations of the world
  3. Unity and diversity of Islamic civilization
  4. The intellectual contribution of Islamic civilization in the fields of religious thought, social and natural sciences, international relations, art, culture, architecture, law and jurisprudence
  5. Future of Islamic civilization: emerging issues and new horizons (globalization, technology, post-modernity, Islamic movements, etc.)
  6. Interaction, clash and dialogue with contemporary civilizations.

Revised dates for fresh submissions

Deadline for abstract submission: October 30, 2010
Announcement of acceptance of abstracts: November 15, 2010
Deadline for full paper submission: January 15, 2011
Announcement of acceptance of papers: January 31, 2011
