D in Islamic Thought and Civilization and M.Phil Islmic Studies specialization in Seerat-un-Nabi (S.A.W) programs aim to strengthen research and teaching about Islam, including almost all courses of Islamic Studies being taught by the universities at M. Phil and Ph. D level, giving specific attention to Islamic thought and civilization and Seerah in contemporary settings.
The programs seek to provide a unique and multifaceted approach to the study of Muslim thought and civilization by placing the study of Islam within a framework of the religious and civilizational study, allowing for a wider analytical and comparative perspective.

Program’s Mission Statement
M.Phil in Islamic Thought and Civilization program aims to strengthen the research and teaching about Islam giving attention to Islamic thought and civilization in contemporary challenges. The program seeks to provide a unique and multifaceted approach to the study of Muslim thought and civilization by placing the study of Islam within a framework of the religious and civilizational study, allowing for a wider analytical and comparative perspective.

Strengths (Merits) of the Programs:
High quality research and advanced courses are the strength of these programs, which are supported by professional and dedicated faculty, excellent library facilities and ample financial assistance.
- The programs are research based and latest research methods and techniques in vogue in Western world are introduced to participants so that they can conduct effective research, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
- Ways and means are identified to provide participants an opportunity to explore countries of the Muslim world, so that they can write reports on problems and challenges being faced by the Muslim societies and recommend solutions to the problems.
- In addition to the intellectual and academic resources available locally, foreign Muslim scholars and even non-Muslim scholars will be invited to share their knowledge with the participants.
- We are trying to involve people in the corporate sector, government agencies and even in private sector that are in decision making position and wish to take decisions in Islamic perspective. These programs can help and inculcate true Islamic spirit in these people.
- The programs have been designed to address real world issues in objective and rational manner in Islamic perspective, avoiding sectarianism or any affiliation with specific religious or political ideologies. Hence, curriculum has been developed in a way which reflects impartiality, rationality and views of all schools of thought and not limited to any single sect, ideology and framework.

- M. Phil Degree in Islamic Thought & Civilization will widen career options including existing opportunities in public and private sector educational institutions.
- World's interest in Islam has increased many folds and consequently most of the world / Western universities have introduced courses on the study of Muslim civilization. These universities are looking for highly qualified and skilled teachers. Our program is designed to produce such teachers.
- Debate on Islam has also increased in print and electronic media and policy making institutions nationally and internationally. This program would prepare scholars to initiate dialogue in Islamic perspective in these organizations.
- Research on Islam has also increased in public and private sector universities and research institutions. This program would prepare researchers who are able to conduct research in these institutions in Islamic perspective.
Admission Criteria:
Admission will be made on the following criteria:
- M.A./M.Sc. in Social or Natural Sciences or Equivalent Degree in any other discipline
- At least 50% marks in the terminal degree for annual system or at least 2.5 CGPA for the semester system
- The graduates of Madrassas having education equivalent to 16 years have to submit the HEC Equivalence Certificate of 16 Years Education
- Proficiency in English and Arabic language
- No 3rd division in educational career
- Each student will have to pass written UMT’s UGAT (University Graduate Assessment Test) and the Interview session
There are no Age, Nationality and Gender restrictions.

NOTE:
Two elective courses will be offered in lieu of Thesis by the Department to those students or participants who want to take two courses in lieu of Thesis. But one elective course will be offered in 3rd semester and the second elective course will be offered in the 4th semester respectively.
It worth mentioned that the elective course is offered only for a group of at least 12 students as the smaller number of students cannot make a size of standard section.

Registration and passing out the PhD Comprehensive Examination:
After passing the PhD coursework with minimum earned CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 Courses, the participant has to register and pass the PhD Comprehensive Examination whose detail is given below;
Written part of PhD Comprehensive Examination:
Written paper 1 (Passing marks = 70 %)
Written paper 2 (Passing marks = 70 %)
Viva Voce / Oral Examination part:
If the participant pass both the written papers, the participant has to pass viva voce examination (Passing marks = 70 %)
PhD Synopsis registration and preparation:
After passing the PhD comprehensive examination, the participant has to register for PhD Synopsis and get started work on Synopsis after the formal approval of research topic primarily by the Departmental Graduate Committee of the Department under the assigned research supervisor.
PhD Thesis registration and preparation:
After approval of the PhD Synopsis or Research topic by the formal bodies i.e. Departmental Graduate Committee (DGC), School Graduate Committee and Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASAR) respectively, the participant has to register Doctoral Thesis Work for one or more semesters till the research work is completed and submitted through proper channel to the Office of Controller Examination (OCE) for the foreign and local evaluation.
PhD Thesis Evaluation:
After the evaluation, the examiners ‘reports are shared with supervisor and the participant and necessary changes (if any) are incorporated in thesis then the revised copy of thesis is submitted to OCE.
PhD Dissertation Defense:
PhD Dissertation Defense is arranged after the fulfillment of the necessary formalities by the participant and the stakeholders.

Program Mission Statement:
M.Phil in Islamic Studies specialization in Seerat-un-Nabi (S.A.W) program aims to cultivate scholarly excellence and critical insight in the study of Seerat un-Nabi (SAW) by nurturing ethical, academic, and spiritual development. The program aspires to produce researchers and educators who can contextualize the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in light of contemporary challenges and contribute meaningfully to Islamic scholarship, community development, and global discourse.

1. To Study and develop a profound comprehension of the life, character, teachings, and exemplary practices of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) through a scholarly approach.
2. To Provide a Cultivate advanced research skills to analyze historical, theological, and cultural aspects of Seerat un Nabi (SAW) using primary and secondary sources.
3. To Equip students with the ability to relate the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to contemporary issues and challenges faced by Muslim societies and the global community.
4. To Promote a foster a deeper appreciation of the ethical, moral, and spiritual values embodied in the Seerah and how they can be implemented in personal, social, and professional life.
