Program Mission Statement

The PhD Islamic Thought and Civilization Program seeks to provide a unique and multifaceted approach to the study of Muslim thought and civilization by placing the study of Islam within a framework of the religious and civilizational study, allowing for a wider analytical and comparative perspective.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  1. OBJ1: To orient the students with perspective of Islamic Thought.
  2. OBJ2: To develop the ability to analyze, synthesize the contemporary issues related to Muslim world.
  3. OBJ3: To develop communication and social skills among the students so that they acquire the comprehension of intellectual achievements in other fields.
  4. OBJ4: To motivate our graduates towards understanding the economic and ethical issues faced by the Muslim world at large and Pakistani society in particular so that they can apply their expertise to solve real-world problems in the perspective of Islamic Thought and Civilization.
  5. OBJ5: To prepare our graduates for high quality research in the perspective of Islamic Thought and Civilization with an inter-disciplinary approach and contemporary themes.

PhD Comprehensive Examination

  • Eligibility: After passing coursework with minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00
  • Written Examination: Two papers (Passing marks = 70% each)
  • Viva Voce: Required if both written papers are passed (Passing marks = 70%)

PhD Synopsis & Thesis Process

After passing the Comprehensive Exam, participants register for PhD Synopsis, receive topic approval from DGC, SGC, and BASAR, and then register for PhD Thesis Work until completion.

Final Thesis Evaluation involves foreign and local examiners. After revisions, the thesis is submitted to OCE, followed by the PhD Dissertation Defense.
