Dr. Muhammad Usman Askari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at UMT, Lahore. He has been at UMT since 2012 where he holds the administrative positions of In-charge BS IR and Political Science programs and student advisor. Before joining academia, he has served for seven years in leading national newspapers including Daily Jang and Daily Express. He obtained his PhD in International Relations from University of the Punjab, Lahore. He is the gold medalist in Masters’ in International Relations and distinction holder in MPhil in Political Science. He holds Masters in English Literature as well. He has won the Best Teachers’ Award from UMT in 2020.

  • Dr. Askari has taught courses (graduate and postgraduate levels) on a wide range of topics including, International Relations Theories, Foreign Policy, Cyber-Security, Intelligence and National Security, Strategic Studies, Ancient and Modern Political Thoughts, Constitutional Law and other areas of Political Science and International Relations.
  • Dr. Askari’s teaching and research has been based on the theoretical viewpoints of big Powers Rivalry, Territorial Disputes in the South China Sea, Geo-political Dynamics in Indian Ocean, New Great Game, Indian Naval Doctrine and its Regional Implications, Hybrid warfare, Role of Intelligence in National Security and Cyber Security.
  • His research often addresses questions related to security issues of South Asia, East Asia and Indo-Pacific regions. He is currently writing a book on the South China Sea Dispute. He supervises thesis in the security and strategic domains of International Relations and welcomes only serious students as supervisees.
