Admission Requirements
A minimum CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the Semester System) or First Division (in the Annual System) in M.Phil/M.S/Equivalent with major in International Relations/Political Science/ Defence and Strategic Studies//Social Science (special conditions) required. Preference will be given to International Relations/ Political Science major.
Completed at least 30 credit hours in MS/MPhil out of which 24 credit hours should be reserved for course work and 6 credit hours for thesis.
The candidate must fulfill the minimum criteria of HEC for admission in PhD program.
Subject Test:
A subject test conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) or ETS, USA in the area of specialization chosen at the PhD level must be cleared prior to admission for the
PhD Program.
- In the case of NTS GAT Subject test ( http://www.nts.org.pk/GAT/GATSubject.asp) a minimum of 60% marks is required to pass the test.
- In the case ETS GRE subject test, a minimum 60% Percentile score will be acceptable.
- In case of UGAT (UMT) subject test , the department will conduct the admission test of the candidate . Minimum 70% score is required to pass this test.
- Interview at the Departmental Graduate Committee of Political Science Dept. (UMT).
Admission Procedure
The applicant seeking admission in PhD program applies on a prescribed form within the due date given in the advertisement for admission.
The application is submitted to the Office of Admissions.
An applicant may be judged on the basis of the following criteria for admission;
- Academic qualification
- Professional experience in relevant field
- NTS subject test/ Written Entry test ( comprehension of the subject , general aptitude for research)

The Ph.d International program will prepare its participants for a broad spectrum of careers spanning academic, public, private, and non-profit institutions and organizations. Even though this program is primarily geared towards those who are pursuing research and teaching careers, it is also designed to expand career prospects of practitioners in the fields of policymaking, development, and mass communication (including print and electronic media).
