Introduction

PhD in Education program is for individuals who aspire to position of professional educational leadership or to a career in educational research. The program focuses on extending knowledge and research expertise of students through scientific inquiry. To accomplish the objectives the program offers challenging curricula, a variety of teaching-learning methodologies and a supportive academic environment. The large pool of in-house PhDs in various Schools of UMT, including the School of Social Sciences and Humanities provides interdisciplinary discussion in the areas of common interest, whilst widening the learning horizons of the students.

Program Mission

The mission of the PhD in Education program is to prepare highly competent, reflective, and ethical scholars, researchers, and educators who contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of education. Through rigorous academic training, original research, and collaborative engagement, the program aims to develop leaders capable of shaping educational theory, practice, and policy. We are dedicated to fostering critical inquiry, academic excellence, and a commitment to addressing educational challenges in diverse social, cultural, and global contexts.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After completion of graduation, the graduates of the PhD Special Education will be able to:

  1. contribute to the body of knowledge in education through high-quality, original research that addresses current and emerging educational issues.
  2. demonstrate leadership in academic, research, and policy-making environments by applying critical thinking, ethical practices, and evidence-based decision-making.
  3. design and advocate for inclusive and innovative educational practices that promote equity, access, and quality at local, national, and global levels.
  4. continuously engage in scholarly and professional development to remain current in educational theories, methodologies, and technologies

 

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

After successful completion of the program, the graduates will be able to:


  1. Apply comprehensive and in-depth understanding of educational theories, philosophies, and contemporary issues in the field of education.
  2. Design and conduct original, ethical, and methodologically sound research that contributes to educational knowledge and practice.
    Critically evaluate, integrate, and synthesize educational literature
  3. and research findings to formulate scholarly arguments and solutions.
  4. Translate research findings into practical applications that enhance educational policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and institutional effectiveness.
  5. Communicate complex ideas, research findings, and theoretical concepts clearly and effectively through academic writing, presentations, and publications.
  6. Demonstrate ethical responsibility, academic integrity, and professional conduct in all educational and research activities.
  7. Provide intellectual and professional leadership in educational settings, influencing policy, reform, and innovation.
  8. Recognize and respond to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, advocating for socially just and culturally responsive practices.

How PEOs and PLOs are aligned with Visions and Missions

All PEOs and PLOs are aligned with UMT, School and Dept. Visions and missions as both PEOs and PLOs encompass development of leadership skills, critical & creative thinking, problem solving skills, equity, equality, meeting local & global standards, taking initiative and social service among participants.

Admission Criteria

MPhil in Education or equivalent degree from HEC recognized University with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00.

Degree Requirements

  • Compulsory Course Work 20 credit hours
  • Comprehensive Examination
  • Publication in HEC approved Journal
  • Subject GRE International / Local
  • Research Work 25 credit hours
