Dr. Kazmi is a Defence & Strategic Studies Researcher & Trainer specializing in the areas of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Strategic Studies, National/ Regional and International Security, Peace Building and Conflict Transformation, Energy Security at regional and global levels, Defence Policy, Diplomacy, and Foreign Policy of Great Powers.

She earned a PhD in Strategic Studies (SS) from National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, Pakistan and an MS in Political Science from University of Auckland (UoA), Auckland, New Zealand.  

The PhD dissertation explores emerging strategic dynamics in Sino-Pakistan relations with special focus on CPEC. The PhD course work was a rigorous exercise in gaining familiarity with issues pertaining to nuclear studies and acquiring sufficient analytical skills to critically scrutinize the cotemporary theories and practices in the field. The courses studied dealt with: Contemporary Strategic Studies, Non-proliferation, Arms Control and National Security, and a Seminar course on Contemporary Nuclear Issues etc.

She served for seven years at a research based think tank Strategic Vision Institute (SVI), Islamabad, as Director Academics, Policy and Programs; Editor; and Senior Research Associate. There she remained actively involved in research projects, writing opinion analyses, report writing, preparing policy briefs, and editing Journal and event reports along with regularly conducting and organizing workshops, seminars, in-houses/webinars and conferences. The themes primarily revolved around Nuclear Strategy; Proliferation/NonProliferation Issues; Security Studies; Cyber Studies; Nuclear Terrorism; Foreign Policy; and Arms Control and Disarmament. Other administrative assignments also included administering and managing Online Journal System (OJS), Institute’s website, Facebook Page, and YouTube Channel.

She has also served as a Lecturer at the local universities including National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad; Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad; Fatima Jinnah women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi; Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI); and National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad. Along with teaching courses on Strategy, Diplomacy, and Democracy, she has supervised Masters’ and Bachelors’ level theses.

Dr. Kazmi has been published in the HEC recognized Journals and has been writing regular opinion articles on issues of strategic importance for the local and international newspapers, blogs, and magazines.
